District-wide Student Member of the Board (SMOB) Election - April 29

Voting key on keyboard

During last year’s legislative session in Annapolis, a House Bill was introduced and subsequently passed. HB1079, as it is now known, requires that all students in grades 6-12 be allowed to participate in the election of the Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB) for Prince George’s County Public Schools. In prior years, this student was elected by the voting delegates of the Prince George’s Regional Association of Student Governments (PGRASG).

The upcoming election for the SMOB will include not only secondary schools but also the eleven elementary schools that still have a 6th grade. Voting is not mandatory and a student may opt not to vote. The voting process should only take 10 minutes to complete and have little impact on the school day. Students will access their PGCPS email on a device of their choosing, view a picture of the candidate, read their bio and platform, and then cast their vote.

Voting will take place on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 7 AM-7 PM.
