  • BOE Member Donna L. Wiseman, Ph.D. Biography

     

    Donna L. Wiseman has been a full professor in the College of Education at the University of Maryland since 2001 and served as the dean for ten years before stepping down on July 1, 2017. She began her career as an elementary teacher in Oklahoma, started her academic tenure in the College of Education at Texas A&M University, and held an endowed chair in Teacher Education at Northern Illinois University. Wiseman has published a number of books and articles relating to literacy, classroom diversity, teacher education, leadership, and the impact of school-university partnerships. Over the course of her work, Wiseman has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator of more than $10 million in grants. She has also been active in state, national, and international professional organizations serving as the Chair of the Board of the American  Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE) and as a member of the national standards board of the Council for Accreditation of Educational Preparation (CAEP). She was a founding Board member of a middle and high school established by a partnership between the University of Maryland and its surrounding community and is currently a member of the Prince George’s County Public School Board. Dr. Wiseman holds an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Oklahoma State University and graduate degrees in reading and literacy from Arkansas State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia.
