The Foundation of Automotive and Construction Technology for Students (FACTS) supports the Student Built House Project initiative. Members of the business community have teamed up with FACTS to have a hands-on relationship with public schools and a mentoring relationship with construction trades students. Each year the Construction and Development students built a house, providing a more meaningful educational experience for the students.
Each student, under the supervision of on-site coordinators, spend one full day each week at the house worksite, and are responsible for the construction of all aspects of the house including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical, cabling, and landscaping. The completed model home is decorated by the Interior Design students for the Spring Dedication and Open House event.
Since 1981, FACTS students have built and sold 31 houses and town homes representing sales in excess of $4 Million. The homes are located throughout sub-divisions across Prince George’s County, Maryland. Proceeds from the sale of the house are used as seed monies for the next year’s construction project.
