Board Policy 2900 - Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome(AIDS)

Purpose

In accordance with state regulations, the Superintendent shall develop a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Education Program. HIV/AIDS infection is a worldwide epidemic. HIV/AIDS education is critical to preventing the spread of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

The program should comply with state regulations and the instructional guidelines developed by the State Department of Education. The Board directs the Superintendent to develop procedures to implement this policy. The procedures should allow students to be excused from the HIV/AIDS Education Program with a written request from their parent(s) or guardian(s).
