Board Policy 6180.3 - Challenged or Contested Instructional Materials

ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY

INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES

The Board of Education, which is responsible for all book purchases, recognizes the student’s right of free access to the many types of different books.

The Board of Education also recognizes the right of teachers and administrators to select books and other materials in accord with current trends in education, such materials not having been declared illegal.

The Board of Education also recognizes the right of parents to request reconsideration of the appropriateness of specific instructional materials for his/her own child.

The Board of Education directs the Superintendent of Schools to develop guidelines to implement the above policies.
