Board Bylaw 9271 - Student Board Member

Purpose

The Student Board Member has both opportunities and responsibilities to participate in policymaking in the public sector. The Board of Education recognizes not only the service rendered, but also the educational value offered to a student by this experience. Credit for public service work has received recognition at the State and County levels in accordance with their requirements; however, Board membership requires time equal to or greater than State or County requirements for credit. It is then appropriate that the Student Board Member be given an option to receive one unit of social studies credit for serving on the Board. Effective with the Student Member taking office in June 1979, and each succeeding year, the teacher/mentor for the student in this educational experience will be designated by the Superintendent.
