Private and Homeschooled Student TAG Screening

TAG Screening and Testing

TAG screening is for students in grades 1 - 7 who reside in Prince George’s County and attend a private school or are registered as homeschooled.

  • Students who were tested in the past 2 years are NOT eligible for testing again this year.
  • Students who have been previously TAG identified in PGCPS need not be tested again.  Prior identification remains valid. Provide student identification information on the application page.
  • All information requested in this PRIVATE/HOMESCHOOL STUDENT APPLICATION MUST be uploaded by January 10, 2024.  
    • This application must include:
      • Application closed on January 15 - NO WALK INS
      • Teacher Checklist – (Grade 1-3; Grade 4-8) Should be completed at the current school by the current teacher/s. Checklist must include the teacher’s name. Schools may choose to email the checklist directly to the TAG Office at rojasproctor@pgcps.org
      • Copy of current SY 2023-2024 report card.
      • Include any nationally-normed standardized test data (reading and math) from the current school, or any test data gathered from an evaluation by an educational psychologist (i.e. WISC-V, Woodcock Johnson, etc.)
      • Homeschooled students in grade 1 must submit a birth certificate to ensure he/she is age eligible.  Please submit the application.
      • LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
    • The testing session will be at least 2 hours depending on grade levels, but could take longer.
      • NOTE: Students in grade 4 - 7 should have nationally normed reading and math achievement from their private school, IF NOT, an additional appointment may have to be made to administer reading and math achievement tests.  This appointment will be Monday-Friday and TAG Office staff will be in touch with the date and time.
    • In the event of a county-wide activities cancellation due to inclement weather, the testing date will be rescheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2024.
    • ALL APPLICANTS will receive an email receipt from the google application form.
    • Important Testing Procedures
      • Please do not send snacks into the testing room with your children, water bottles will be allowed.
      • Parents must remain on site during testing.

Notification of Screening Outcome

Notification of the screening outcome should occur within three (3) weeks after testing. However, you may apply to the lottery any time during the application window.

Outside Testing

Parents of Prince George's County private or homeschool students who wish to have their children screened for TAG services with outside testing in lieu of PGCPS testing on February 10, 2024 should submit the standard private/homeschool school application by the January 10, 2024 deadline.  Include with your application a cover letter indicating that you will be submitting outside testing data.

Outside testing includes the following and must be submitted by February 10, 2024.

  • Testing reports from a licensed educational psychologist;
  • Standardized cognitive ability assessment (i.e.WISC-IV, CogAT, etc) for all students in grades 1 - 7;  Scores should be reported as full scale IQ percentiles.  
  • Nationally-normed standardized math and reading achievement scores (i.e. Stanford, CTBS, Terra Nova, or Woodcock-Johnson) for students in grades 3 - 7.

A PGCPS student identification number is required to apply for a Specialty Program.
