The Child Find Process
Parents seeking Child Find or Special Education Services for a child who attends a private or parochial school geographically located in Prince George’s County, should contact The Child Find Office for Private, Religious and Home School Students (Ages 5-21). Parents/Legal Guardians can make an appointment to come into the office and register their child with Prince George’s County Public Schools. This registration is not an enrollment registration but an administrative registration for tracking and informational purposes only. During the registration the parent will receive an IEP Team Referral Packet. The packet contains four forms, one for the parent to complete and the other three for the private school to complete. Once the documents are completed they should be returned to The Child Find Office as soon as possible. Once the office receives the packet it is reviewed for accuracy, a master copy is made for the office file. The original file is then forwarded to the IEP Team at the neighborhood public school where all subsequent discussions and decisions are made.
