Prince George's County Public Schools celebrated employees who have spent decades shaping young lives. With nearly 20,000 employees in the district, the event honored the work of those who've gone above and beyond.

“We're not just colleagues - we're family,” said Superintendent Millard House II. “This evening shines a light on those who've given their all to our schools.”

The event recognized 158 employees with 35 years of service, 44 who've served more than 40 years, and nine who've dedicated more than 50 years.

House praised them as the heart of PGCPS, calling their commitment the foundation of students' dreams.

Honorees reflected on how times have changed since they began their careers. Those marking 40 years of service remembered gas at $1.12 a gallon, while 50-year veterans noted the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. But House said their dedication has remained steady.

“These employees have shaped thousands of lives,” he said. “They are our living legacy.”

Peggy Harrington, a supervisor in the Department of Testing, Research and Evaluation, shared her journey. She started in 1976 at Hillcrest Heights Elementary and worked in three schools before joining her current team. “I wouldn't change a thing - I truly enjoy what I do,” she said.

The event also recognized David Zahren, long-time Science Bowl host and a Communications team stalwart for 51 years.
