Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), the Board of Education, and state and county elected officials gathered for the second annual PGCPS Legislative Day.

This collective effort aimed to champion the school system's priorities and address the needs of students, schools, and staff. The event highlighted 2024 policy accomplishments while introducing the district’s 2025 Legislative Platform.

Among the platform's priorities is the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a unique opportunity for transformative progress in education. To fully realize the Blueprint’s potential, PGCPS is advocating for increased flexibility and dedicated funding, ensuring that its ambitious goals are met with the resources that students need and deserve.

Another critical focus is school safety and security, as the district actively seeks funding to enhance and expand security technology and infrastructure.

“We are pleased to be joined by many of our elected officials and community members who will have a voice in the upcoming legislative season to learn about the needs of our school system, so we can advocate for the more than 132,000 students that we serve and represent,” said Superintendent Millard House II. “It's important for our School Board and Administration to work closely with our Senators and Delegates to ensure that the legislation written is meaningful for both our county and our students.”

“This event is about bringing together our stakeholders—students, parents, elected officials, and staff—in one space ahead of the January 8 legislative session to advocate for the needs of our students and school system in a uniform and strategic manner,” said Quincy Boyd, Chief of Staff for PGCPS. “We’re engaging with our elected officials to help them understand the impact of policies on our education system. When we communicate effectively, our elected officials can draft bills that will be beneficial for us. There is nothing like this event in the state, and we are thrilled to be trailblazers in this space.”

“Legislative Day is an opportunity to educate, advocate and act together as one to say this is the help we need and this is why,” said Lolita E. Walker, PGCPS Board of Education Chair. “When we think about all that is possible for our students and coming together in support of our students and schools this is a time for great optimism and excitement.”
