Tulip Grove Elementary School teacher Madelaine Galarza recently received a prestigious award from the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFP Foundation) as part of their "Extra Yard for Teachers" initiative, which celebrates the profound impact of dedicated educators nationwide.

Nominated by the University of Maryland Athletics staff, Galarza was awarded a $2,000 grant to help meet essential classroom needs. The initiative emphasizes four pillars: resources, recognition, professional development, and recruitment and retention, each aimed at supporting and empowering dedicated educators like Galarza.

With nearly 30 years of teaching experience, Galarza has made a lasting impact on her school community. Her contributions include preparing incoming kindergarten students for a smooth transition, stepping in to teach a third-grade class during a colleague’s extended absence, and offering early-morning reading support to help a student reach grade level.

“Maddie Galarza is an unstoppable force for children,” shared former Tulip Grove Principal Bryan Baudoin. “Her heart for children shines through in everything she does.”

Reflecting on the honor, Galarza expressed her gratitude: “I am deeply touched by this recognition and humbled that so many see the passion I have for ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn and succeed.

Her award celebration was met with cheers, high-fives, and hugs as she took a well-deserved victory lap through the school halls, embraced by students and staff alike.
