Dear PGCPS Community:
Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) continues to update the community on the August 14, 2023 ransomware event where an unauthorized actor accessed information that included PGCPS usernames and passwords (employee and student). Out of an abundance of caution, PGCPS forced a reset of all passwords; all employees are required to reset their password to access the PGCPS network and systems, and all students were issued new passwords for the 2023 – 2024 school year.
Along with safely restoring our systems to operability, we immediately responded and launched an investigation with outside forensic specialists to confirm the nature and scope of the incident. We continue to encourage all PGCPS network users to take identity protection measures and see below for information on steps you can take now to protect your identity. As an added precaution, we are providing all employees and students with 12 months of complimentary access to a comprehensive Experian product to monitor credit and/or internet surveillance, and provide identity theft insurance with restoration. You can reach Experian on the dedicated assistance line at 844-254-3173.
We note that this initial notice may be supplemented at a later date with new information, as our investigation remains ongoing. Please continue to refer here for updates and see the employee FAQs and student FAQs below.
Thank you.
Andrew Zuckerman,
Chief Information Officer
