UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Graduation season in Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is a time of celebration for students, schools and families. Student success will be highlighted at events and graduation ceremonies over the next few weeks:
Thursday, May 17 – Board of Education Awards
Martin’s Crosswinds, 7400 Greenway Center Drive, Greenbelt
6:00 p.m.
The Prince George’s County Board of Education will honor students, staff and community partners at its annual awards night.
Tuesday, May 22 through Monday, June 4 – High School Graduation Ceremonies
Gwynn Park and Largo high schools will kick off PGCPS graduation ceremonies on May 22.
Academy of Health Sciences @ Prince George’s Community College will graduate nearly an entire class on May 24 receiving their associate’s degree and high school diploma the same day.
DuVal High School Aerospace Engineering and Aviation Technology Program will graduate its first class May 29, with seniors receiving nearly $1 million in scholarships.
Many seniors faced significant challenges on the road to graduation. Despite behavioral issues during her first two years, Friendly High School senior Destiny Allen will graduate with a 4.0 GPA and attend Clark Atlanta University on a band scholarship. Potomac High School senior Jimia Tiamiyu spent much of senior year in the hospital with a chronic heart condition. Through persistence, perseverance and the support of faculty and staff, she completed her studies while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. Largo High School senior Anthony Draughn received a “wake up call” after getting expelled from school for participating in a fight. He returned this year more focused than ever on his grades and future.
