Dr. Monica Goldson, Interim Chief Executive Officer, issued the following statement on the appointment of Dr. Alvin Thornton as Chair of the Prince George’s County Board of Education:
“Dr. Alvin Thornton is a revered figure in Maryland public education. His vast knowledge of school system operations, funding and equity combined with his commitment to excellence will serve our students and families exceptionally well. As a former three-term chair of the Prince George’s County Board of Education, he has a clear understanding of school board governance and the Administration’s roles and responsibilities. His unapologetic focus on equity for all students and demonstrated work to ensure high-quality educational opportunities will help advance our programs. I am excited to welcome Dr. Thornton back to the Board of Education.”
