UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Families impacted by the approved Comprehensive School Boundary plan should expect to receive additional information next week from Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS).
PGCPS will mail the letter by Monday, November 21 to parents and guardians, detailing the specific changes to their child’s school assignment. The changes are expected to impact approximately 8,300 families.
Rising fifth and and eighth grade students who will be impacted by boundary changes may remain at their current school for the final year. Transportation must be provided by parents. Siblings will be permitted to remain for that year only. More information on the application process for families in this category will be shared in early 2023.
In addition, the consolidation of Concord and Pointer Ridge elementary schools is delayed until fall 2024, placing the schools on the same timetable as Rose Valley Elementary.
Approved by the Board of Education last Thursday, the plan creates boundaries for six middle schools opening in fall 2023, reduces the number of temporary classrooms, increases prekindergarten offerings and aligns the sixth grade with middle schools. Input from families and staff was essential in finalizing the plan.
