2024 Legislative Platform to serve as roadmap for political advocacy

UPPER MARLBORO, MD — Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) today introduced its 2024 Legislative Platform, a formal avenue for engaging with elected officials on legislation that directly impacts the school system.

The new platform, unveiled during an inaugural Legislative Day event attended by state and county elected officials, district leadership, Board of Education members and student leaders outlines measures the school system supports and opposes for potential impact on PGCPS students, staff and families.

"Today’s inaugural Legislative Day and 2024 Legislative Platform mark a critical step in enhancing our communication and collaboration with elected officials,” said Superintendent Millard House II. “This tool will serve as a roadmap to guide our ongoing work advocating for the unique and evolving needs of our school system and building stronger ties with state and local lawmakers."

Areas of focus in the platform include: recruitment and staffing, school and community safety, student well-being, curriculum assessment and grading, special education, funding for critical programs and charter schools. The platform also takes a stance on Board of Education authority and decision-making.

“The Legislative Platform is a necessary tool by which we can be strategic in proactively engaging in the legislative process, collaborating with elected officials to influence decisions that impact our community, and garnering support for our initiatives,” said Board of Education Policy & Governance Chair Walter Fields. View the 2024 Legislative Platform.
