NBCT NEWS RELEASE:

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) continues to lead the nation in advancing educator excellence, ranking among the top 20 school districts nationwide for National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). This year, 97 PGCPS educators achieved National Board Certification — the highest professional distinction in teaching — while 27 experienced teachers successfully renewed certification.

With these latest additions, PGCPS is now home to 635 National Board Certified Teachers, including 503 with active certifications.

This distinction underscores the district’s dedication to elevating teaching standards and ensuring students benefit from high-impact instructional practices.

“Excellence in teaching starts with educators who push the boundaries of their profession, and we are proud to have so many of them in PGCPS,” said Superintendent Millard House II. “National Board Certified Teachers bring unparalleled expertise and leadership to our classrooms, creating transformative learning experiences for students. As we expand professional development opportunities and recruit outstanding educators, we welcome more teachers to join our district and grow their careers with us.”

NBCTs serve as role models within their schools, providing mentorship and leadership that strengthen the entire district.

National Board Certification is a rigorous, performance-based process that requires educators to demonstrate advanced knowledge, instructional expertise and a commitment to student learning. Widely regarded as the gold standard in teaching, this process helps educators refine their practices to meet the diverse needs of their students.

PGCPS will celebrate newly-certified educators during a special ceremony on March 12 at Fairmont Heights High School.
