Dear Parents,
This spring all students in the state of Maryland enrolled in grades three through eight, as well as students
taking English 10, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry, will participate in Maryland’s Comprehensive
Assessment Program (MCAP) English Language Arts and Mathematics tests. Federal guidelines require
Maryland to test in both English/Language Arts and Mathematics each year in grades 3-8 and in selected high school content courses. The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) test will help measure students’ mastery of English Language Arts, Literacy, and Mathematics. The test is administered over two days and will take approximately three hours each day. BTMS testing is slated for the following days:
● MCAP RELA: on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 and Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
● MCAP Math: on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 and Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The test will include both selected response and constructed response items and the online version of the test
will also include Technology Enhanced Items.
It is extremely important that your child is in school and on time each day of testing and that early
dismissals are reserved for after 12pm on testing days. Make-up testing is required for all students.
Students needing to participate in make-up testing may test through Friday, May 23rd. Students may not be permitted to test if tardy on their assigned testing day and will be required to attend a make-up session if they are absent.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT DOES HIS OR HER BEST JOB.
PLEASE...MAKE SURE...
1. Your child arrives at school on time and is in school for the entire testing session.
2. Your child eats a substantial breakfast in the morning that will give them the necessary energy and
alertness for participation in testing. (students are not permitted to eat once testing has begun)
3. Your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before each testing day.
4. Your child understands that during testing sessions, all cell phones are to be turned off and secured in
their locker. Students who are observed with their cell phones, headphones or smart watches
will be removed from testing and their assessment may be cancelled without make-up.
5. You encourage your child to do their best!
Thank you for your help. We know our students will do their best! Should you have any questions, please
contact our School Test Coordinator, Ms. Pollack, at patrice.pollack@pgcps.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kendra Hill
