Traffic Plan

Dear William Wirt Middle School Families,

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each of you for making the start of this school year truly exceptional. Your support, enthusiasm, and cooperation have played a significant role in ensuring a smooth and successful opening of our brand-new, state-of-the-art building. It’s been wonderful to see our students settling into their routines and embracing the new opportunities that our enhanced instructional programming offers.  Your patience and support as we iron out our traffic plan does not go unnoticed.

As we continue to refine our procedures, I want to share a few important updates regarding arrival and dismissal:

  1. Arrival Time & Dismissal Procedures: To ensure a safe and orderly start to the school day, we kindly ask that students arrive no earlier than 8:00 AM. Supervision is available beginning at this time, and students will have access to the building for breakfast or to sit  in the cafeteria.  We’ve made some adjustments to streamline the dismissal process. Students who are van riders will be dropped off and picked up at the main entrance on Norman Ave. side.  Car Riders will not be able to drive on the property due to bus arrival and departure. Car riders should be picked up promptly at the designated area, outside of the school property on the hill of Tuckerman St. and 63rd Place. We appreciate your patience as we work to make this process as efficient as possible.

  2. New School Building Entry: Families will have a different traffic pattern until phase 4 is completed.  All families should use Kenilworth Ave, regardless of whether you're traveling northbound or southbound. Then, turn onto Sarvis Ave—left if you're heading north, right if you're heading south. From there, turn right onto 61st Place and then left onto Norman Ave.  You will see parking spots on the right side of the building along the fence line.  All cars will exit the building on 63rd Place only!

  3. Access Points: Please note that families who need to enter the building, can enter  school through Norman Avenue which may be accessed from Kenilworth and Sarvis.

  4. Safety Reminders: Please continue to follow all safety guidelines during arrival and dismissal. This includes using crosswalks, following directions from our staff, and being mindful of the traffic flow around the school.

Your ongoing support and cooperation are invaluable as we navigate these changes. Together, we can ensure that our students have a safe and positive experience each day.  Thank you again for being such an integral part of our school community. I look forward to the many successes this year will bring!

Warm regards,
Principal Simley
