Grading Policy

All students are graded based upon the degree of success they achieve in completing the educational program designed to meet his/her unique needs. Every student will have the opportunity to earn grades that reflect his/her ability to demonstrate learning outcomes.

Preschool, Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1

Grade	Rationale
PR	Proficient (80 - 100%) - child can reliably demonstrate indicator.
IP	In Process (69 -79%) - child demonstrates indicator with assistance.
ND	Needs Development (0 - 59%) - child does not demonstrate indicator.
TL	To Be Taught later.

Grades 2-5

Grade	Rationale
A	Excellent progress at the level of instruction indicated 90 – 100%.
B	Above Average progress at the level of instruction indicated 80 – 89%.
C	Average progress at the level of instruction indicated 70 – 79%.
D	Below Average progress at the level of instruction indicated 60 – 69%.
E	Unsatisfactory progress (failure) at the level of instruction indicated below 60%.
I	Incomplete. The “I” grade may be used for elementary students who have been lawfully absent from school and have not had an opportunity to make up missed work in a timely manner.

A student will receive a “failing” grade for assignments, tests, or quizzes when the following occurs:

A student has cheated on a test, quiz, or assigned project.
A student fails to produce work within an assigned timeframe.
A student who has been lawfully absent fails to produce make-up work in a reasonable timeframe.
A student has been unlawfully absent.
A student does not demonstrate satisfactory progress at the level of instruction indicated (below 60%).

Progress Reports

Interim progress reports will be issued for students at the middle of each quarter for grades 1 - 5.

Report Cards

Report cards will be issued for all students after the end of each quarter. These are the dates when report cards will be released:

Lawful/Unlawful Absences Affect on Grades

Students who are lawfully absent from class will have the opportunity to make up missed work. The number of days allowed to make up missed work will be the same as the number of days of lawful absences. The teacher has 48 hours to provide make-up work. Lawful absences include:

Death in the immediate family

Illness of the child

Court summons

Hazardous weather conditions

Work approved/sponsored by the school

Observance of a religious holiday

State emergency

Suspension

Enrolled students who are not in compliance yet with immunization requirements.

Lack of authorized transportation (school bus fails to pick up a student)

Students are unlawfully absent if they are absent from school for any reason other than those defined above. Students with unlawful absences will receive a “failing” grade for work given when they are not in attendance, which will be averaged with other daily grades. The school is not required to provide make-up work, either before or after the absence.
