Greetings, JMMS Families,

Welcome to James Madison Middle IB World School - a place where scholars can embark on a global educational journey. Our aim is to create a strong partnership with our scholars so that they can reach their full potential and succeed as middle school scholars.

I hope you are having a great summer and that scholars are keeping busy. Here is an update on the renovations at James Madison Middle School and some important information to prepare for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year.

James Madison Middle School is currently undergoing renovations. As a result, we have temporarily relocated to Forestville High School for the 2023-2024 school year. The renovations are expected to be completed in early August 2024. The address of Forestville High School is 7001 Beltz Drive, Forestville, Maryland 20742. Please note that our phone number will remain the same, and our office hours are from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and by appointment only on Fridays for the summer.

The theme for this year is "Equitable Opportunities through Access, Culture, and Enrichment." We aim to revitalize and reclaim the James Madison Middle School's name by providing opportunities for all stakeholders to excel. We aim to provide the best education and experience for all middle school scholars. To achieve this, we have planned the following for the upcoming school year:

  • The addition of two Dean of Students to the staff to support culture.
  • One extra Security Assistant to support safety and culture.
  • Continuation of the Peer Mediation Program to support culture.
  • Field trips to colleges and universities to support access.
  • Guest speakers from specialty programs in the county to support access.
  • After-school activities, such as tutoring, to support enrichment.
  • International Baccalaureate curriculum to support enrichment.

It is important for everyone involved to work together to ensure that our scholars succeed academically and emotionally. Let's strive for excellence!

Here are some important dates and information to prepare your scholar for the upcoming school year.

Important Dates:

  • August 2023 - The JMMS leadership team is organizing an open house for all scholars and families to visit the school in person. This will allow scholars to explore the building and get familiar with the new layout. More information is forthcoming and date will be provided.
  • August 24, 2023 - The Systemic Student Orientation will take place.
  • August 28, 2023 - First day of school for all scholars. Scholars must report on the first day in their full uniform.

Important Information

  • Schedules - Scholars will receive their official schedule on the Systemic Student Orientation day and the first day of school.
  • School Supplies - The general 2023 - 2024 school supply list is included
  • Bus Transportation - Bus routing information will be provided by transportation. Go to www.pgcps.org for bus information. Families will receive a letter from the Transportation Department indicating student am and pm routes with stops and times. Every student will be assigned a bus due to the relocation.
  • Free and Reduced Lunch - Free and reduced lunch applications are available online at www.pgcps.org
  • PGCPS Issued Chromebooks - Scholars who will need a Chromebook for the 2023 - 2024 school year should complete this Google Form.
  • Immunizations - Scholars must have up-to-date immunizations. Failure to provide updated immunization records may result in exclusion from school.

I look forward to working with families this year. Let’s make it the best one ever.
