The Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) Blueprint Schools Program has made significant progress with the advancement of Phase II. Between September and October, the Progressive Education Partners (PEP) team led seven Project Planning Committee (PPC) meetings, where key elements of the Phase II program and the selected schools were discussed and refined. These sessions brought together PGCPS leaders, design experts, and key stakeholders to consider several critical features of the new schools being developed under this initiative.

Each meeting addressed various aspects of the respective school’s design, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful planning to create functional, safe, and inclusive spaces. Topics such as site traffic and transportation management, pedestrian safety, and ADA accessibility (Americans with Disabilities Act) were thoroughly reviewed to ensure the new schools meet the needs of students, their families, and the surrounding communities. Building security was also discussed, focusing on creating welcoming and secure environments for students, staff, and visitors. Additionally, the PPC meetings explored the integration of outdoor facilities, school identity, and branding to foster a sense of community and pride and support a conducive learning environment.

In early October, a town hall was held for the new Fairwood Elementary School, gathering local stakeholders, community members, and state leaders to discuss the project's progress and gather input. This event underscored the community's strong interest and involvement in the Blueprint Schools Program, ensuring that the new school reflects the needs and values of the surrounding area. The culmination of these efforts came on Friday, October 4, 2024, when the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fairwood Elementary School was held. This marks a significant step forward in the Blueprint Schools Program, which continues to create state-of-the-art educational facilities designed to provide students with the best possible learning experiences.
